Students Union Government(SUG) aspirants in conjunction with students of the department of Mass Communication in Lagos State Polytechnic has launched a rally against Drug use and drug abuse in the school.
The rally, organised by Hassan Nurudeen Abiodun, Oyebade Isaac Olamide and Yahaya Sodiq Akolade, who are aspirants in the forth coming Student’s Union Government election in the school targeted students who have suffered drug-related disorders occasioned by drugs use and it’s abuse.

Speaking at the rally held inside Lagos State University of Science and Technology on Tuesday 20th of October 2022 themed: “Peaceful Walk Against Drug Abuse", Hassan Nurudeen Abiodun, said the rally raised awareness about the major challenges that illicit drugs pose to individual and the society as a whole, especially to the young people.
He said the goal of the campaign was to mobilise support and inspire youths to act against drug use and also create a safety-net for young people consuming addictive and mood shifting substances.

In a speech delivered by another aspirant Oyebade Isaac, Olamide stressed that “the rally was organised to drive a new wave of awareness among students of the institution about drug use”. He stated that the challenge with drug use and abuse is that the addict is not the only one impacted by the disease as friends and family can have difficulty coping with the addict’s behaviour.
Similarly, Yahaya Sodiq Akolade expressed worry over the high prevalence of substance use among students.
He stressed the need for “collective efforts to dismantle drug use and it’s abuse, especially with its effect on the society. He said nobody is exempted from the negative effects of drug abuse and addiction, considering its social and security implications on the individual and the society respectively.
